Community Action Needed to Support Newly Arriving Afghan Families
Please join WLS as we help Sacramento Food Bank welcome Afghan evacuees to the Sacramento area!
The United States continues its humanitarian evacuation and relocation of a group of Afghan Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) applicants to Northern California. SIV evacuees are interpreters, medical personnel and community members who served the U.S. government during the war in Afghanistan. Local charities assisting evacuees are in need of help, and one local organization is expecting about 1,700 Afghan evacuees to arrive in our area before the end of this year. During the month of October, WLS is collecting new items to fill household welcome baskets of basic household goods and supplies to be distributed to evacuees by the Sacramento Food Bank.
