Justice elena j. Duarte

Associate Justice Elena J. Duarte was appointed to the Third District Court of Appeal in December, 2010. From 2007 to 2008 she was a trial judge on the Los Angeles Superior Court and was subsequently appointed to the Sacramento Superior Court, where she served through 2010. Born and raised in California, she is a graduate of University of Southern California and received her law degree from Stanford Law School. After law school she worked at the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., and then returned to California where she served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Sacramento and Los Angeles. At the time of her 2007 appointment to the trial court, she was Chief of the Cyber and Intellectual Property Crimes Section at the U.S. Attorney’s office in Los Angeles. Justice Duarte is the Judicial Liaison for the 2024 WLS Board.
