Artfest 2023 Recap
Artfest 2023 was a highly successful event put together by our Development Committee, consisting of Brittany Johnson and Alyssa Malinoski, as well as our Executive Committee, Lauren Jones, Kathryn Meola, Natalie Fujikawa, and Vanessa Raven. Putting together this event was thoroughly a team effort.
This year we pivoted ourselves back to a fully in person event, reminiscent of the event our members have come to know and love pre-Covid. We opted out of a virtual auction and instead brought in a live auctioneer, Freddie Silveria of FSA Auctions. Freddie brought an amazing energy to the event and helped us raise even more funds that we could have imagined.
As always, we had an incredible silent auction filled with items from our nine featured artists, who are showcased below. We had several additional artists donate to the event, we put together carefully procured baskets, and had many other exciting items to bid on. Not to mention we auctioned off, not one, but two, vacation packages to Mexico.
The outpouring of support from the community helped us not only sell out our event but raise over $30,000 which goes straight into the Women Lawyers of Sacramento Foundation (despite dealing with a worldwide square outage on the night of the event).
All proceeds retained by the WLS Foundation are used towards awarding scholarships to deserving law school students, and providing grants to local organizations serving the greater Sacramento area. Grants are awarded each year to organizations whose purpose and activities are related to any one (or more) of the following five categories: (1) Women's Issues; (2) Children's Issues; (3) Education Programs; (4) Access to Law; and/or (5) Community Based Programs.
In 2023 we were able to provide 10 grants, and 5 scholarships, donating a total amount of $27,500. With such a successful event this year, we hope to be able to provide even more financial support next year.
Thank you to all our sponsors, artists, donors, and guests for your ongoing support for the WLS Foundation.
